Bloober Team And Konami Announce Partnership, Fueling Silent Hill Rumors

BBloober Team The Medium

Haunting players with a spine-chilling afterlife mystery in The Medium, developer Bloober Team is preparing to scare up a PlayStation version of the formerly Xbox-exclusive experience. However, it appears the horror port isn’t the only project on Bloober’s docket, as a recent announcement sees the developer enter a big partnership alongside Konami with at least one project currently in the works.

Detailed in an IR post, Bloober Team and Konami unveiled a “strategic partnership,” establishing joint development on multiple projects as well as “exchange of know-how” between the two companies. Little was said regarding what the high-profile alliance might produce, but Konami’s own press release assured a “high-quality” combination of each company’s “respective characteristics and strengths” and teased more information would be divulged “once details are decided.”

“It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work,” Bloober Team president Piotr Babieno said in a statement. “The fact that such a renowned company as Konami has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market.”

The Medium Dual Reality

Of course, when examining the horror strengths of Bloober Team, one can’t help but ponder the possibilities of a new Silent Hill game, especially in the wake of an official Konami partnership. While there’s certainly little to suggest this is a reality (yet), this announcement happens amid heavy rumors hinting at the next entry to Konami’s iconic series. Adding to matters, Bloober Team hasn’t exactly steered clear of speculation in recent months, with CEO Piotr Babieno teasing work on a “very exciting” horror IP with a “very famous gaming publisher” back in February.

“We’ve been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we’re doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can’t tell you who,” Babieno said in a previous interview with GI.biz. “I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure when people realize we’re working on it, they will be very excited.”

Looking back, the CEO was almost certainly referring to Konami, so it might only be a matter of time before we know more about this “exciting” horror IP that may-or-may-not be Silent Hill. In the meantime, Bloober Team’s most recent game The Medium is finally set to release for PlayStation 5 following its own small bit of speculation. Differing from the Microsoft launch, the PS5 version notably boasts full DualSense controller support, including features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

The Medium is available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S, with a PlayStation 5 version coming September 3rd.
