Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Are Definitely Horny, Says Larian Studios

The player base of Baldur’s Gate 3 have aligned themselves in a particular category. This time, we’re not talking about the typical moral alignment in Dungeons and Dragons. Oh no, we’re talking about the horny alignment. According to developer Larian Studios, we’re “all horny” and there’s no doubt about that.

Larian Studios founder, Swen Vincke, sat down with IGN to chat about the reception Baldur’s Gate 3 has had with the RPG community. From the moral alignment that players have shifted toward, the level of romantic activities, and even the frustrations that have come from early access issues. Thankfully, the community has played an active, vibrant role in the game’s progress and development. As that continues, however, they’ve discovered a great deal of amusing facts about them too.

“They’re all horny, I can tell you that,” Vincke told IGN. “I think we have one percent that’s not interested [in romances], so we’ve put a lot of effort into making sure the parts are there. So anybody who tells you the opposite, I can tell you that’s not true.”

There’ve also been a surprising amount of players who’ve taken the evil route, especially when it comes to Minthara – an evil drow you encounter approximately halfway through the game. Without spoiling the plot, players must eventually choose a side. Those who chose to side with Minthara are certainly not aligned toward good. Well, according to Larian Studios anyway.

“I can see how many people slept with Minthara,” Vincke shared. “That’s quite large, and to get there you have to be evil. There’s certainly people that have had no moral scruples.”

On the other hand, she is a potential companion and that might outweigh the drawbacks of betraying others! Above all, Larian Studios is focused on allowing players the freedom to operate between and around the grey lines of morality and ethics. Regardless of what the players choose, it’s been a wild ride to observe. As Baldur’s Gate 3 continues its development, the team intends to create a diverse range of options.

“The writers have a tendency of being good and not putting in the evil options,” Vincke explained. “We had to actually force them to go through everything and put in more contrasting options so that they could put the evil ones in there. For choice to be there, you need to have the ability to do good and evil and things in between, and edge cases, and stuff like that. That is a modus operandi for the remainder of the game.”

Diversity is welcome, especially in role-playing games! Whether it be a range in race, ethics, or romance, it seems Larian Studios is have a jolly good time observing player habits. Are you part of the large percentage of horny Baldur’s Gate 3 players? Or are you the rare percentage of players more interested in the story?
