Alien: Covenant Video Introduces the World to Walter the Android (VIDEO)
Since the beginning of the Alien franchise, androids have played key roles in the stories of each film. The Weyland-Yutani Corporation is the intergalactic conglomerate that is responsible for most of the space exploration and the creation of androids in the franchise’s universe. To promote the next entry in the series, Alien: Covenant, a new video has been released in the form of an advertisement for their latest android model, Walter.
Walter will be played by Assassin’s Creed and X-Men: First Class star Michael Fassbender. In Prometheus, Fassbender played another android by the name of David who was essentially the antagonist in the film. It is rumored that Fassbender will play both David and Walter in the upcoming film. It’ll be interesting to see how vital his latest android is to the plot of the new movie.
Alien: Covenant is being directed by Ridley Scott, who was responsible for the first Alien film back in 1979. Scott has supposedly planned on adding more movies to the franchise’s lineup after Covenant. Alien fans welcome the director back to the franchise with open arms. After all, he provided the direction that landed late actor John Hurt immortality in the sci-fi and horror genres.
The new film is a direct sequel to 2012’s Prometheus and takes place before the events aboard the Nostromo in the first Alien. The lineup of actors starring in Covenant is full of recognizable names. Besides Michael Fassbender’s portrayal of Walter (and possibly David), actors such as James Franco, Guy Pearce, and Danny McBride will all be aboard the colony ship, Covenant. Noomi Rapace will also be reprising her role as Elizabeth Shaw, though this could be in the form of flash backs of the events in Prometheus.
Alien: Covenant is due out May 19th in theaters. Are you a fan of the Alien series? Which of the multiple films are your favorites?
