Abandon Ship Showing First Demonstration At PC Gamer Weekender 2017 (VIDEO)

Abandon Ship promised us “FTL-meets-Sunless Sea in the golden age of sail” and so far, it looks simply gorgeous. And dangerous. But that danger looks gorgeous, so it evens out. This game will have you as the Captain of a ship with every chance of failure, and going to Davy Jones’ Locker will be permanent. Your ship may be destroyed but your captain might survive if he can escape. Sadly, there isn’t always an escape, and death being permanent means you’ll have to start again. Brutal – I love it.

This high-seas fantasy game will be procedurally generated. You will have the role of captain and must lead your crew on epic quests, engage in tactical combat, navigate through dangerous terrain, and make hard decisions that could impact the fate of yourself your ship, and your crew – sometimes in unseen ways. The game will bring the FTL command aspect together with the exploration of Sunless Sea (whose lead writer recently joined BioWare) – and people seem to want this.

We always wondered why a game didn’t exist that combined the tactical combat of games like FTL with the exploration mechanics of titles such as Sunless Sea, all wrapped up in an ‘Age of Sail’ setting. That sounds awesome, right? As development progressed, we felt that Abandon Ship deserved an art style to match the dramatic tone of the game, and the Classic Naval Oil Painting style was a perfect thematic fit.

Now, Abandon Ship will have its first reveal at the PC Gamer Weekender, hosted by developer Fireblade Software. They will show off the game to give people a proper look at it – showcasing some of the games core mechanics, explaining how players will control their ships, what each part of the ship does, and some of the gameplay mechanics (such as weather). You can also check out the game at their steam page.

Abandon Ship is shaping up to be an amazing game, what do you think about it? Comment below and tell us your thoughts. Don’t forget to also visit Don’t Feed The Gamers on Facebook and Twitter to join our amazing community for gamers there, as well!
