This True Detective Pikachu Trailer Is The Stuff Of Nightmares (VIDEO)

After a long and arduous wait, the highly anticipated Detective Pikachu movie will be releasing in just a few short weeks, much to the excitement of veterans and newcomers alike. While many are understandably thrilled with what the movie’s success could mean for the future of Pokemon, other fans have decided to take things in a very, very different direction by merging Detective Pikachu with the first season of True Detective to combine, that’s right, True Detective Pikachu.

The folks over at Sam & Bill Comedy recently released a fan-made trailer for True Detective Pikachu that throws away the Pokemon rule book by swapping out Matthew McConaughey’s Rust Cohle character with Pikachu, and Woody Harrelson’s Martin Hart with Ash. The kicker is, the trailer still manages to closely follow the plot of the first season of True Detective, proving that “Time is a flat circle, Pika Pika.” As a disclaimer, things get pretty dark. Check out the trailer below:

Notable elements found within the above trailer include the appearance of Misty, who seems to be Ash’s wife. Those that have seen the first season of True Detective know that things get complicated between the two characters and, er, Pikachu, but that’s all I’ll say about the matter. Other characters from Pokemon also make an entrance here, namely Jesse, James, and what appears to be Meowth.

The trailer for True Detective Pikachu was absolutely well made, and you can tell the creators put a ton of time and effort into being “the very best.” That fact alone won’t make me stop wanting to forget the thing ever happened, though.

The real, infinitely more wholesome Detective Pikachu movie debuts on May 10.
