‘Godzilla’ and ‘Pacific Rim’ Sequels Have Official Titles
Godzilla and Pacific Rim have provided excellent movie-going experiences and exciting takes on the giant monster genre. So popular are these films that sequels for both will be stomping into theaters in the coming years.
It has recently been reported that the two films will be released as Pacific Rim: Uprising and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Also revealed was the name of the Detective Pikachu adaptation creatively titled Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu.
The name drops came as part of an announcement about Legendary Pictures’ Herbert W. Gaines and his new appointment of EVP of Physical Production:
“Gains’ responsibilities will include overseeing production of Legendary’s feature film slate including such highly anticipated projects as Pacific Rim: Uprising, Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu, and Godzilla: King of Monsters.”
Earlier this year, 2013’s Pacific Rim follow-up was thought to have the subtitle “Maelstrom“, but it seems this won’t be the case. The original film was directed and co-written by Guillermo Del Toro, but due to Del Toro being occupied with other projects, the upcoming sequel will be handled by Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.
Not much has been revealed about the Godzilla sequel other than the fact that the atomic menace will face off against King Kong after the ape’s re-debut in next year’s Kong: Skull Island.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is slated to release in theaters on February 23, 2018, while Godzilla: King of Monsters will come out a year later on March 22, 2019. Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu has no release date as of yet.
