Halo: Infinite Won’t Have Battle Royale, Studio Confirms

Halo Infinite Developer Responds To Microtransaction Concerns

Battle Royale has been a dominant topic in video game discourse for the better part of almost two years now.  When PUBG set the world on fire last year and with Fornite becoming the world’s most popular game, it only makes sense that every AAA publisher and studio wants to get their own slice of the success off of these two gigantic games.  Call of Duty and Battlefield have both declared they’ll ship with their own iteration on the mode in their games this year, but one particular shooter seems to be abstaining  According to 343’s Jeff Easterling, Halo: Infinite will not be including a Battle Royale mode.

The news came as part of a recent stream on Mixer (around the 55:56 mark) with Easterling saying they “won’t be chasing trends” by shoehorning in the mode into their plans for the game’s initial modes at launch.  This might be bad news for folks who might have wanted to see what the Halo formula applied to Battle Royale would be like, but also a relief to fans who may be fatigued with so many high-profile games including the mode and don’t want to see 343 Industries spend time on creating one for Halo.

Halo: Infinite is a long ways off, the teaser at Microsoft’s E3 press conference this year looks like the only thing we are gonna get for quite a while, so maybe 343 could change their tune about adding the mode.  Or maybe they are considering adding it into the game later.  Who knows?

Battle Royale might be a decent fit for the franchise considering its proclivity for vehicles, weapons ranging from conventional archetypes to crazy energy swords, items like shields and jetpacks, and amazing vistas that would lend themselves well to differentiating how maps in other BR games look.
