Recently, Gazillion Entertainment announced that their contract had ended with Disney/Marvel, bringing the Diablo-style game, Marvel Heroes to an end. The title has been free to play, but featured tons of micro-transactions that would allow players to unlock some of their favorite characters and alternate costumes. Now that the title will be going offline at the end of the year, console players that just got into the game are demanding refunds for their in-game purchases.

Micro-transactions have been a heated topic as of late, and what’s happening with Marvel Heroes is no exception. Although the title released on PC a few years ago, console players were only able to get in on the Marvel action earlier this year. With Heroes’ initial free to play platform, the in-game purchases allowed for players to unlock more characters and costumes. Those character weren’t cheap either. Players could buy individual characters at around $5 a pop, or buy $20 packs to unlock multiple items and characters. Either way, building you Marvel dream-team in Marvel Heroes could cause a small fortune.

One such player claims he has invested roughly $400 into Marvel Heroes, buying characters and costumes. The player goes by EITTurtle and now is hoping that with the news of the title’s demise, he and others like him will be able to get their money back. He stated, ““I know there a lot of hard working players out there that take pride in grinding and spending hours to unlock characters, I am not one of those people. . . for me, time is money.”

The issue has, of course, received its very own subreddit where many players are demanding their funds back for a game they only got a few months to play. Some are claiming that purchases within the last few weeks are being refunded, while others are saying they are being denied. Gazillion Entertainment has yet to make any public announcement as to whether or not they will be offering refunds. Unfortunately, Marvel Heroes’ terms of service state that Gazillion can get rid of the game and in-game content whenever it wants and owe its users nothing.

PC gamers don’t seem to be too concerned with getting their money back as they’ve been able to play for a few years already. Console players, on the other hand, are quite upset that the title was expected to last longer than just a few months. While Gazillion is under no legal obligation to refund the purchases made on consoles, it could potentially damage their reputation for future projects if the issue isn’t addressed.
