Activision Blizzard Discusses Overwatch Movie – “We Would Like That Very Much”
The coming months will see the end of Overwatch‘s second year in gamers’ libraries. In the time since its May 2016 launch, the title has grown into an international sensation, even making its way to the eSports scene. Even though the FPS only focuses on multiplayer, it still provides a great deal of story through its cinematic shorts and comics. That being said, it leads many to believe that an Overwatch movie could be making its way to the big screen at some point in the future.
During a recent interview with MCV, Activision Blizzard’s Tim Kilpin discussed the possibility of a feature-length project surrounding the world of Overwatch and its characters. Regarding a potential movie, he said, “we would like that very much.” While that isn’t a concrete confirmation that it will be happening, it does give fans hope.
Then again, would gamers want an Overwatch movie? Many video games have attempted the jump to the big screen, with the rate of success being far lower than that of failure. Even the film adaptation of Warcraft wasn’t received as well as many had hoped, but it doesn’t seem like that would stop Blizzard from giving it another go with their team-based shooter. Of course, this may well end up only coming to fruition if the hype is there. If not, we can all continue to enjoy the beautiful cinematic shorts that the dev team provides.
