Hitman TV Series In The Works Led By John Wick Creator
It wasn’t long ago when Hitman developer IO Interactive went independent, ending their long partnership with publisher Square Enix. One of the break-up’s takeaways was that IOI would retain all creative rights to Hitman franchise, leaving many to wonder what comes next for the studio. It’s now become apparent that a Hitman TV show is in the property’s future, with production company Fox 21 and streaming service Hulu teaming up to deliver the murderous goods on the small screen.
According to Deadline, Derek Kolstad, who kicked off the action-packed John Wick film films, will write the series’ pilot while also executive producing the remaining episodes. Adrian Askarieh and Chuck Gordon will also serve as executive producers after contributing to film adaptations Hitman and Hitman: Agent 47. Hitman is reportedly aiming to become a “flagship series” for Hulu, and will closely follow the mythology of the long-running game series.
While the idea of a new Hitman TV show may seem a bit overdone, especially when considering the recent films, the show could prove to be in the proper hands. Hulu is distributing the series on its streaming service, joining the likes of the miniseries 11.22.63 and the upcoming sci-fi comedy Future Man. Fox 21 is no slouch in the action-drama genre either, with shows like Sons of Anarchy, Burn Notice, and Homeland under their belt. Hopefully Hitman can live up to those popular shows when it hits Hulu in 2019.
