Patty Jenkins Officially Returning to Direct Wonder Woman Sequel
One of the most successful movies of this year was Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ Wonder Woman. The film exceeded the expectations of fans and critics everywhere, which led to the rather quick announcement of a forthcoming sequel. Of course, fans knew that actress Gal Gadot would return as the notorious Amazonian warrior, and now it has been confirmed that Patty Jenkins will officially be returning to the director’s chair.
It has been assumed that Jenkins would reprise her directorial duties for the sequel to the DCEU’s (DC Extended Universe) most successful film, but it is now confirmed. Not only will Jenkins be directing the next movie, but she will also be co-writing the script with producer and DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns. Some early rumors suggest that Wonder Woman 2 will be set in the 1980’s, where Diana Prince will fight off the Soviets during the end of the Cold War.
Jenkins’ deal with Warner Bros. makes her the highest paid female director in Hollywood. It is estimated that the sequel will land her between seven to nine million dollars, plus a percentage based on the film’s earned gross. That should earn the famed director quite a bit of coin, considering Wonder Woman has become the highest grossing film directed by a woman to date. Since we are speaking on the financial end of things – Wonder Woman is also the highest grossing comic book character origin film of all time. That’s right, Diana Prince kicked Iron Man, Captain America, Batman, and Superman’s asses.
Wonder Woman 2 is expected to release December 13th, 2019. You can catch Gal Gadot suited up in this fall’s Justice League, where she will be joining Ben Affleck (Batman) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as they defend the world from an alien threat. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if we see her make cameo appearances in other DCEU films as well.
Are you glad that Patty Jenkins is returning to co-write and direct Wonder Woman 2? Do you think that Gal Gadot’s character will be able to save the DCEU from drowning, given the recent turbulence surrounding the Batman films? Which is your favorite comic book movie to date?
