First Look at Tim Burton’s Live-Action Dumbo

This year’s D23 conference is in full swing and with it comes some incredible announcements and reveals. Disney’s current trend of bringing their classic animated tales back with a live-action cast is certainly grabbing lots of traction among fans. Disney has announced that one of the many films getting the live-action treatment will be the classic story of a certain flying elephant by the name of Dumbo. Infamous director Tim Burton is taking the helm on the project and has just released the first image of the title character, which you can see below:

The image above is that of a full sized prop that was brought on stage for the announcement. As can be seen, Dumbo looks very much like his 1941 counterpart. As the prop was rolled onto the stage, the flying elephant’s ears could be seen wobbling, giving the prop some life. Even his eyes are mystically blue, which stays true to the source material.

As people are well aware, Burton enjoys working with people that he has worked with in the past, so the announcement of Michael Keaton, Eva Green, and Danny DeVito seems to feel just right for the project. Colin Farrell, Sharon Rooney, and Roshan Seth will also be in the live-action Dumbo film. Will anyone be surprised if Johnny Depp and/or Helena Bonham Carter make a cameo appearance?

Although Dumbo looks similar to the 1941 character, the story will vary quite a bit, giving Dumbo more human interaction. The official synopsis reads:

Disney’s new live-action feature film Dumbo introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.

Dumbo has a release date of March 29, 2019. What are your thoughts on a Tim Burton Dumbo film? Are you a fan of the classic animated movie? Let us know in the comments section below. Be sure to follow DFTG on Twitter to catch our 24/7 live feed of the hottest news in gaming and entertainment.
