DayZ Developer Calls Out Ark: Survival Evolved’s Price Increase – “F**king OUTRAGEOUS”
Some may know Ark: Survival Evolved as the open world dinosaur breeding, taming, and riding survival game that has been hanging out in Steam Early Access for a little over two years. Apparently, it has been doing well enough for Wildcard Studios to consider bringing it out of Early Access in August, however, a month before this was supposed to happen, they’ve already jumped the gun and made the game $60 on Steam. For those playing at home, the title was selling for $30 just a few days ago, but now it sits at AAA pricing, and some are none too pleased about this. For example, take a look at what once-upon-a-time DayZ developer Dean Hall had to say(he came out swinging):
Just so we're clear on my opinion: the price increase for Ark is ****ing OUTRAGEOUS.

Ark: The game is nowhere near ready for that kind of price. It's greed – pure and simple. It represents a huge disconnect with the community

“****ing OUTRAGEOUS,” says the former DayZ developer. Quite the strong choice of words, and as one might imagine, they have certainly sparked a bit of debate on Twitter. Some people tend to agree with Hall and don’t believe Ark is ready for the big time yet. Others, however, are calling out Dean for DayZ not living up to expectations and for abandoning the project before it could be finished. For the uninitiated, the Bohemia Interactive developed open world zombie survival title has been in Early Access going on four years, but it’s looking like it could be heading to beta this year.
Speaking with sources, Hall went on to discuss what a game needs to warrant the AAA pricing. He says, “Many focus obsessively on how long a game is in early access but I would far rather a game take as long as it needs in Early Access to be bug free rather than a rushed development and then a rushed price increase.” The former DayZ developer also mentions that what is worrisome is not the price, “But those making the pricing decisions seem so disconnected from the development.” Stay tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers for future updates on Ark, DayZ, and more!
