Assassin’s Creed Origins Director Discusses World Size – “At Least Twice the Size of Havana” (VIDEO)
In the grand scheme of video games, the size of a world can be considered as a make-or-break element. Have a realm that is too expansive for a particular title’s story, and developers run the risk of players becoming bored and not continuing their experience. On the other hand, if an IP has an incredible tale to tell, but it doesn’t allow for exploration and expansion upon said tale, it can lead to frustration for gamers. It’s a very fine line for devs to tiptoe, but it is what leads to some incredible journeys, whether vast or wee. In a recent interview, Assassin’s Creed Origins director Ashraf Ismail discussed the size of the next installment in the AC franchise, and how it compares to previous entries.
If I compare it to previous games in the past, I don’t actually know the exact numbers for sure… I could say that it’s probably at least twice the size of Havana from Black Flag. At least.”
Speaking with Game Informer, the Origins director tackled a host of questions presented to him about the upcoming game. One of the main things that he touched on was the size of the world contained within Origins, and while it may be rather large, it is how it’s used that counts. “Having said that, I don’t think the size of the city is what matters,” he explained. “It’s really the content, the experience that you have inside of it. It’s how alive that it is. So we filled these locations with quests, with actually making each city feel unique to itself, why was it important to Egypt.”
As can be seen in the video above, the Origins director goes into great detail about many aspects of the game. Customization options will be aplenty, but confirmation of whether or not Bayek can be bearded was not given. The map will practically be available in full from the get-go, but won’t truly be unlocked until players have gone through the introductory sequence. The modern-day bits to the game are being kept under wraps for the time being, and Ashraf seems to be okay with that. He even says, “I would rather have people be more surprised by the experience,” but “If they want me to talk about it I’ll be more than happy to talk about it.”
Assassin’s Creed Origins is set to launch on October 27 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
