Wild West Online Developers Announce Big Change in Plans
Wild West Online has caused an obscene amount of uproar in the gaming community in the past couple weeks and there’s very good reason for it too. An MMO (massive multiplayer online) title that has very key elements and features reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption have many gamers hooked and anticipating its arrival. In fact, its popularity has grown so immensely in such a short amount of time, the investors backing 612 Games and their project have increase funding.
However, that means a couple of things – first and foremost, WWO will no longer be coming to Kickstarter as planned. Initially, the developers did not receive enough financial support in order to fully fund the endeavor, but since the widespread news of Wild West Online, the stakeholders had a change of heart. Secondly, there won’t be a Steam Early Access any longer. In a statement, Stephan Bugaj the Chief Creative Officer for 612 Games said:
The community’s response to Wild West Online is something we never imagined, and thanks to it, we’re able to fully develop a robust Western experience for PC. We’ve been fortunate enough to have our initial investors step up and provide additional funding to make the game we wanted, without having to raise money via crowdfunding. Westerns are lacking on PC, so we can’t wait to release the game to the public.”
The developers do have plans of opening up a closed beta this Summer, but details on that have not been disclosed yet. Furthermore, stretch goals for the MMO such as female character, language localization, and card games will now be included at the core. In an interview with Massively OP, Bugaj mentioned that they hope to include Russian, Portuguese, Thai, and Mandarin on top of the already planned English, German, French, and Spanish. Additionally, PvP interactions are not required to enjoy the game.
“For those players we’ll offer community-driven PvE and role-playing servers. These servers are community-driven and players who don’t want to do ANY PvP whatsoever will be free to do so and have their own “reality” on a custom server,” said Bugaj. “Or they can join one of the community-ran and -regulated roleplaying servers. It’s pretty much the same concept as the role playing servers for World of Warcraft.
What hopes and features do you wish to see with Wild West Online’s eventual launch? Are you planning on participating in the betas, or at least try to?
