Simpsons Parodies Big Bang Theory in 30th Anniversary Couch Gag (VIDEO)

Simpsons

For fans of the Simpsons, it’s no surprise to find the creators behind this long-running series taking pot-shots at recent events and media in their episodes. Recently, however, the Simpsons have taken the opportunity to poke fun at another highly popular television series, and the results are hilarious. In one of the latest installments of the TV show, creator Matt Groening decided to open the 30th anniversary episode with a quick look at the past thirty years by changing up the opening couch sequence to celebrate. To do so, show creators decided to “blast” their way through the brief recap by parodying the opening title sequence of the popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Check out the video below to see it in action:

As we cruise through a galaxy of memories (Mr. Plow! The Be Sharps! Lenny’s fatal encounter with a killer dolphin which was prefaced with “Mmm! Alcohol and night swimming! It’s a winning combination!), we hear altered lyrics to the Barenaked Ladies’ “The History of Everything”: “The whole Fox network was in a hot, dense state/Then nearly 14 billion years ago they began a TV show/Then Bart tried to sell his soul/Lisa turned to vegetables/Grampa started fighting bulls/Springfield built a wall…”~ Entertainment Weekly

With the clever tribute to the past thirty years of the Simpsons’ antics, this opener only goes to show the lengths that Groening and his team have gone through, to pay homage to this incredibly funny show that has entertained the masses for so long. The Simpsons has definitely proven itself to be a well-loved series, and with a quick recap of all the adventures the characters have gone through, this parody has been the perfect way to celebrate the successes of the show’s creators and cast for their hard work.
