Long-acting as a counterpoint to Xbox’s Games With Gold program, PlayStation Plus is now preparing an upgrade to take on Microsoft’s hyper-successful subscription service Xbox Game Pass. While not an exact carbon copy, the platform largely merges Sony’s two main services, PS Now and PS Plus, into a single entity, with extra perks added along the way. Of course, as we wait for this big update, Plus members will soon have several new freebies to redeem for the month of April 2022.

Debuting on April 5th, PS4 and PS5 PlayStation Plus members will get access to Hood: Outlaws & Legends, a competitive co-op and dark medieval take on the Robin Hood mythos, and the mega-successful fantasy deck roguelike Slay The Spire. Of course, the arguable standout is SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, the classic fan-favorite platformer fully remade with updated visuals, voice acting, and all-new content.

PlayStation Plus April 2022 Free Games

• Hood: Outlaws & Legends (PS4, PS5)
  • Hood: In this intense online multiplayer title, rival gangs compete in daring heists to hit the wealthy where it hurts. One of the different game modes is State Heist: a full coop PvE mode where teams control spawn points to recuperate as much gold as possible. In Gold Rush PvPvE mode however, two teams of four players battle it out in an attempt to execute the perfect heist, stealing and extracting treasure while fighting each other and the AI Guards. Equipped with unique skills and mystical abilities, each character moves in stealth to steal treasures unseen. It’s up to you to recruit your band of outlaws, master formidable fortresses and outplay your rivals.

• SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated (PS4)
  • The classic platformer returns, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and use their unique sets of skills to thwart Plankton’s evil plan to rule Bikini Bottom with his army of wacky robots. Meet countless characters from the beloved series and enjoy horde mode for up to two players, online and offline.

• Slay The Spire (PS4)
  • Embark on a journey up the ever-changing Spire, in this fantasy deckbuilder adventure that fuses together card games and roguelikes. Craft a unique deck from hundreds of cards to efficiently dispatch foes and reach the top. Discover powerful relics to enhance your deck’s powers to help you overcome different enemies and bosses.

Those looking to assemble an outlaw crew, tread animated undersea realms, or begin building their decks, can only do so from April 5th until May 5th. After that, the next batch of freebies will be available to scoop up. Those who may have missed out on last month’s PS Plus offer only have a few days to take advantage, with Ark: Survival Evolved, Team Sonic Racing, Ghostrunner for PS5, and Ghost of Tsushima: Legends still up for grabs until April 4th.
