Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Revealed, Promises Real Open World

Pokemon Scarlet

Just as Nintendo has carved their own quirky successful circle within the gaming industry, The Pokémon Company has cemented their own mega-popular circle within the Nintendo ecosystem. After 25 years, Pokémon games continue to be among the bestselling for Nintendo systems. Even the latest iteration, Pokémon Legends Arceus, has proven to be one of the fastest selling and highest praised Pokémon games ever. With Arceus and remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl recently releasing within the span of a few months, many have wondered if the series might rest on its laurels. Well, that is not the case, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been revealed as the next entries in the series.

The Pokémon Company released the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet announcement trailer on their official YouTube channel, after having first made its debut during the Pokémon Presents digital event yesterday. The trailer begins with a security guard exploring a corporate building (possibly the Game Freak HQ, after their logo appears in a lit sign) at night. The guard comes across a mysterious room filled with research, artifacts and a hung picture that leads to the world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The trailer then shows footage of the new games’s landscapes, which the Pokémon Company promises to be an open world. It would seem that these games will embody a fully borderless open world, unlike recent games like Arceus which featured secluded areas and sectioned off parts of the map. The trailer then returns to the “real world” with the guard, revealing the three new starter Pokémon for the game. These include Sprigatito (a grass-type cat), Fuecoco (a fire-type croc) and Quaxly (a water-type duck). Little else is revealed about the game so far, but it certainly seems like it will be a bold next step for the Pokémon series, and hopefully it lives up to the hype. Once again, we’re going to have to catch em all.
