Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man Finally Arrives This Month, New Details

Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man Roadmap

The epic superhero brawls of Marvel’s Avengers began just over a year ago, but the title’s long-promised PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man DLC has still yet to make an appearance. Having been teased well before the Square Enix title reached release, fans were finally greeted with a first look at the character back in September, with the red arachnid’s new adventure slated for a vague Winter release window. Now, it looks like the day of Spider-Man has finally arrived.

As detailed in the latest weekly War Table blog post, Crystal Dynamics formally laid out an updated roadmap for the remainder of November, highlighting a bounty of content, namely, the highly-awaited Spider-Man expansion. Titled ‘With Great Power,’ the new Hero Event follows Peter Parker as he dons his web-slinging Spider-Man persona and teams up with The Avengers to stop AIM’s dastardly plan to upgrade its Synthoid army to an “unstoppable” degree.

“Peter Parker uncovers AIM’s new plan to acquire technology that could make their Synthoid army unstoppable and total domination inevitable,” reads the event’s synopsis. “He must partner with the Avengers to stop this looming threat, and forms a tentative friendship with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow while keeping his identity hidden. As a Hero accustomed to working solo, he struggles with the new dynamics of working with a team. Will he join up full time with the Avengers, or stay independent in his fight against AIM?”

Spider-Man officially debuts for PS4 and PS5 on November 30th, arriving alongside a number of new activities and gameplay tweaks. Among the expected shuffle of cosmetic rewards, the update sees Marvel’s Avengers open its first raid, Discordant Sound, with Black Panther villain Klaw at the forefront of a striking new enemy type called Echoes. The big update also implements a gear recycle feature, per-hero weekly objectives, the new gear-earning Shipments system, and a Power Level increase from 150 to 175.

The webhead’s imminent arrival happens as Marvel’s Avengers comes under quite a bit of scrutiny from fans as well as some behind the scenes. Square Enix personnel recently spoke about the game’s “disappointing” returns, and players recently decried the introduction of paid consumables to the Marketplace, which felt way too close to the idea of pay-to-win for some. However, the developers have since reversed the decision in response to the backlash.
