The long-brewing Netflix game platform may not be off the ground yet, but it appears the upcoming cloud component may already have a formidable partner in Sony. This intriguing speculation comes from the findings of a data miner by the name of Steve Moser, who discovered a series of images buried in the Netflix app seemingly referencing the PS5 DualSense controller as well as the PlayStation-exclusive title Ghost of Tsushima.

While this alone wouldn’t be entirely too telling, two corresponding images were also found depicting an “N Game” logo and a shark fin icon. The former is comparable to the “N Film” and “N Series” logos labeled on Netflix Original programming, while the shark fin icon is claimed by Moser to reference “Shark,” the current working name of the future gaming feature. All these images present in the official app appear to suggest some sort of Netflix game partnership with PlayStation.

Though nothing is confirmed between PlayStation and Netflix as of yet, this new discovery appears to paint an intriguing picture nonetheless. A partnership between the two companies could present Sony’s long-teased counterpunch to Xbox Game Pass, feasibly offering a means to stream first-party PlayStation titles to Netflix’s considerable install base of over 200 million subscribers. If true, this agreement would come alongside another recent deal with Sony, which lines up future theatrical movies like Uncharted to stream exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix and #SonyPictures announced a pay-one window licensing deal in the U.S. for SPE feature films following their theatrical and home entertainment releases, beginning with their 2022 film slate.

Rumors have long swirled about the start of a Netflix game platform, but the movie and TV service officially confirmed such plans this week. As per a report from Bloomberg, former Oculus and EA Mobile exec Mike Verdu was revealed as the division’s vice president of game development, with Netflix subsequently confirming the hire with The Verge. Verdu will reportedly head the streamer’s foray into gaming as it moves toward adding a formal “game” section to the service within the next 12 months.
