As technology improves, we’ve begun to see developers behind high-profile video games commit to reducing overall file sizes, something that’s been extra beneficial for massive titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Fortnite appears to be next up on that list, with Epic Games releasing a patch today that promises to reduce the file size of the game by around 60GB for PC players.

Fortnite developer Epic Games recently took to Twitter to announce the good news. According to the post, the patch on PC will be larger than normal, clocking in at 27GB. The patch brings with it the Fortnitemares 2020 event Midas’ Revenge alongside the previously mentioned optimizations. The patch itself released earlier this morning, so those playing on PC can download it and enjoy roughly 60GB more space than what they had before.

Please note the patch size will be larger than normal on PC (approx. 27 GB). This is to make optimizations on PC resulting in a massively reduced Fortnite file size (over 60 GB smaller), smaller downloads for future patches, and improved loading performance.

As stated in the above Tweets, the patch doesn’t just bring with it instant gratification. What was implemented in the patch – likely better compression methods – will also result in “smaller downloads for future patches and improved loading performance.” Not too shabby Epic, not too shabby.

Fortnite is now available on all major platforms.
