GameStop has had it tough in recent years. Last year, it was already confirmed that the company planned to close 180-200 underperforming stores by this year. During the holiday season, holiday sales didn’t perform well and their numbers reflected an additional 25% loss from the $673 million nose dive in 2018. As if the lay-offs of staff and store closures weren’t indicative enough of their regression, the company decided to lay-off district managers as well.

According to a report by Polygon, two sources who reported working condition stated long-time staff members of GameStop that served over ten years managing stores were told to step down. With the number of personnel decreasing, the level of responsibility have increased for the ones left standing. For example, after this particular wave of lay-offs, current managers are left managing more than twenty stores as opposed to a dozen or so.

Over a dozen staff members were interviewed by Polygon and they “expressed broadly negative views of the company’s future.” From the looks of it, GameStop continues to struggle with maintaining the future of their stores and staff. Current employees have reported extensive pressure to make sales as GameStop’s stock continue to plummet and revenue decreases.
