Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong Narrative RPG Announced
As revealed across several months in 2019, the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop series is getting a modern-gen adaptation in the form of the upcoming sequel ‘Bloodlines 2.’ However it looks like fans will have even more undead happenings coming their way with the announcement of a new narrative RPG called Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong.
Unveiled by developer Big Bad Wolf, ‘Swansong’ was revealed as a new and separate experience from the Hardsuit Labs offering, set to arrive sometime in 2021. Adapted from the 5th edition of Vampire: The Masquerade, the game’s Twitter-posted synopsis describes “recent events” which have “caused Kindred society to reevaluate how it protects its existence in modern nights. As the Camarilla retreats into itself, unknown threats on the horizon could see the collapse of the Ivory Tower itself.”

In a set of follow-up posts, Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong was confirmed to follow “the intertwined tales of 3 vampires” belonging to separate clans of the Camarilla, with players tasked to “confront their bias and unravel fact from fiction” from these differing points of view. “Navigate the whispers of conspiracy, murder and power struggles,” the posts continued. “Protect your clan, discover the truth, and above all protect the Masquerade!”

Another new VtM video game isn’t entirely a surprise as a new narrative RPG based on the tabletop experience was previously announced back in May–albeit without a title or much of any story context to speak of. Now that Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong has been formally confirmed, it becomes one of four games from the World of Darkness continuity preparing to release into the night. Following the recent delay of Bloodlines 2 later into 2020, a text-based adventure title called ‘Coteries of New York’ has also been announced for later in 2019. Of course, that’s not to mention the Werewolf: The Apocalypse adaptation also in the works at Cyanide Studio.
What do you think? Are you interested in what Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong could have to offer, or is 2021 way too far away to form much of a significant opinion?
