Bloodborne Game Director Says Making A Sequel Isn't His Decision

When FromSoftware announced Bloodborne way back when, it was taken to be a bit of a departure from the studio’s then tried and tested Dark Souls formula. The caution and defensive strategies that carried players through the Dark Souls games no longer had any meaning in the more aggressive, in-your-face gameplay that Bloodborne required, which made for a visceral, more fast-paced experience. Given that the game did so well on the PlayStation 4, many have wondered why a proper sequel has yet to be announced. According to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, apparently things aren’t all that simple.

Hidetaka Miyazaki recently spoke in an interview with the folks at GameSpot Brasil, wherein the Dark Souls creator was asked if there was anything he would like to change about Bloodborne more than four years later. Miyazaki responded by saying that there were a few things he would have liked to change with Chalice Dungeons and Blood Gems. It was then suggested that he could implement those changes in Bloodborne 2, at which point he laughed and said via translation, “Bloodborne 2…unfortunately, I’m not the one to decide.”

Miyazaki-san is of course referring to the fact that while FromSoftware developed the game, Sony owns the actual IP. As such, while it appears that he would love to dive into a sequel for the game, it would chiefly be up to Sony to give the green light and get the ball rolling. In the meantime, Miyazaki-san and his team have their hands busy with Elden Ring. Still, he isn’t saying that a possible Bloodborne sequel isn’t completely off the table, so here’s hoping they get around to it.

So, thoughts on the possibility of a Bloodborne sequel? Do you feel that Sony might be planning on releasing the sequel on the PlayStation 5?
