Cyberpunk 2077 Will Have A Wanted System And Corrupt Cops
Cyberpunk 2077 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of 2020, and players are chomping at the bit for any morsel of information they can get from developer and publisher CD Projekt RED. While the game made a splash at E3 this year with the reveal of Keanu Reeves having a significant role in the story as well as more of the interesting neon-drenched noir aesthetic, no new gameplay was shown to the public. Another demo behind closed doors was shown to members of the press, though it might be released later as the same thing happened for the gameplay demo shown at E3 2018.
New information has come about though as one of the game’s UI Coordinators Alvin Liu spoke a little bit about the game’s “Wanted” system. Much like other open world games, the player will face consequences from authorities if they choose to commit crimes in front of witnesses. What those crimes were wasn’t exactly clarified but judging by the studio’s previous game, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, one can assume that means things like stealing and hurting civilians.
The twist on this system, however, is that there will be “up for hire” police officers. In an interview with WCCFTech, Liu says in Cyberpunk’s world “the laws exist to take bribes from corporations. So a corporation might pass a law that you can’t sell medicine anymore, and they’re going to enforce it. The only reason they got that law passed was that they bribed the government and they’re only using it as a proxy.” This would certainly be a unique spin to a traditional consequence-driven “Wanted” system. Maybe the player will have to balance their allegiances with the corporations evenly, lest they draw the ire of their powerful leaders.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 16, 2020.
What do you think? Does this new Wanted system seem like a unique-enough spin for a game as anticipated as Cyberpunk 2077? Are you hoping for a faction system? Let us know in the comments below.
