Upcoming Fallout 76 Patch Improves Experience For New Players
Fallout 76 recently addressed its negative reception and has since started taking steps to reverse this consensus. E3 2019 saw the Wasteland promised the long-requested addition of NPCs and story questlines, the update rolling out at a future time later this Fall. In the meantime, Bethesda is set up to improve Fallout 76 in other ways, the newly-announced Patch 11 intended to streamline the experience for new players of the game.
As revealed on the Bethesda blog, the incoming update helps new players’ journey out of Vault 76 “have more gradual introductions to some of the game’s mechanics and challenges.” These changes include a cheaper initial price for fast traveling, “higher disease resistance,” and more helpful Challenge rewards that encourage “a better chance at survival.”
Patch 11 is coming to #Fallout76 later this month and, in this week’s Inside the Vault, we’re sharing a few patch highlights.

Enemy encounters are seeing a revision in a few key areas, Bethesda toning down creature difficulty in locales such as “Ash Heap, the Savage Divide, and Toxic Valley.” Food and drinks are also being reworked to be easier to manage, these items no longer losing condition after using fast travel. Additionally, raw food will spoil at a reduced 50% speed, allowing it to stay edible for twice as long as before.
Legendary items, crafting recipes, and item mods are set to get significantly more detailed menu descriptions, in addition to numerous more quality-of-life fixes. In this regard, Power Armor is getting new functionality such as togglable HUD skins and the ability to activate a Stealth Boy cloaking device. Lastly, party-ready punch bowls are seeing their return, bulk junk scrapping has been refined, and several fixes are set to address some notable bugs reported by the community.
Bethesda expects Patch 11 to debut sometime in mid-July, leaving a window of only a few weeks before everything goes live. Over the last few weeks Fallout 76’s entry into battle royale, Nuclear Winter, made its grand introduction, the mode’s sneak peek beta session being indefinitely extended and updated for anyone who owns the base game.
Fallout 76 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
