Baldur’s Gate 3 Developers Tease Returning Characters
The fan-beloved studio behind Divinity: Original Sin is now working on the long-awaited Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios officially unveiling the project just ahead of E3 2019. A number of details have since been revealed about the dungeon crawling RPG, including a touted 100 hours of content and a rather humorous community update straight from the developer. Now the studio has dropped even more details about the game, teasing the inclusion of several fan-favorite characters from the past.
In an interview with VG247, founder of Larian, Swen Vincke, divulged their approach in taking the reins for Baldur’s Gate 3. Contrasting the comparatively upbeat Divinity series, Vincke assures the more serious tone of previous Baldur’s Gate games will remain intact for the third D&D-based adaptation. “It’s going to be somewhat darker, more serious,” Vincke explained. “But serious topics work much better if there’s a little bit of humour in there, and Dungeons and Dragons is about having fun at the tabletop. So that means there is going to be stuff that will make you smile.”
As Baldur’s Gate remains one of the more popular spin-offs of Dungeons & Dragons, much of the games’ main characters have remained relatively available since the series went dark. The likes of series antagonist Bhaal are all but sure to feature in the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3, but franchise favorites such as Minsc and his hamster companion Boo can conceivably show up as well, as Vincke teases.
If you look at what the Fifth Edition has done, characters like Boo and Minsc are still alive. Bhaal and maybe a couple of other guys are still around. What’s gonna happen with that? You’re gonna discover when you play BG3.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 confirmed to release for Google Stadia and PC sometime in 2019.
