A handful of employment opportunities have recently appeared on 2K Games’ website. Covering a plethora of positions, the listings point towards an unannounced AAA first-person shooter. Is another entry into the BioShock franchise on the horizon? What exactly is 2K Games hiring for?

As stated above, the job listings cover a wide array of positions. Lead Gameplay Engineer, Lead Systems Designer, Lead Technical Artist, Principal Environment Artist, and a Principal Animator are all being sought by the publisher. Each description alludes to the fact of 2K Games hiring a brand new team for something different than what has been released in the past. Each listing begins as follows:

Hello! We’re starting up a new team here at 2K to – surprise! – make a video game. We are a small, scrappy group with a ton of ambition AND the resources to see it realized. That’s pretty rare these days. Think of us like a well-funded startup but without all the gross tech culture trappings. This is an opportunity to join an incredible project on the ground floor.”

Last month, Randy Pitchford stated that Gearbox has a significant amount of their team working on Borderlands 3, but is it possible that they require assistance? After BioShock Infinite, a lot hangs in the balance for the series, but the listings could be for the next entry. With 2K Games hiring for those kinds of positions, however, it might be safe to say that something entirely new is on the way.

Luckily, a few details are hinted at throughout the job listings. A story-driven campaign is expected for the unannounced title, which is sure to please gamers with the abundance of story-less games hitting the market in recent years. The Lead Systems Designer post also points to the use of a sandbox world. Either way, something new is coming and once 2K Games gets their team together, more details are sure to arrive.
