Doctor Who: 13th Doctor to be Revealed Following Wimbledon Men’s Final (VIDEO)
Whovians have become accustomed to getting attached to an actor portraying the time traveling hero on BBC’s Doctor Who just in time for the character to regenerate and pass the torch to the next incarnation. Such is the case with The Doctor’s latest actor Peter Capaldi. As many fans know, this will be Capaldi’s last season playing the infamous Time Lord. The big question on everyone’s mind is: who will be playing the 13th Doctor? It seems as though fans don’t have very much longer to wait for that answer.
BBC America has teased the announcement of the 13th Doctor via Twitter. A short teaser video shows what can only be assumed as the key to the hero’s ship, the T.A.R.D.I.S., followed by the number 13 appearing in places all over the world including the flames on the torch of the Statue of Liberty. The teaser ends with: “Meet the 13th Doctor after the Wimbledon Men’s Final Sunday 16th July.”

The end of the 12th Doctor also marks the end of show runner Steven Moffat‘s reign on the series. Moffat began writing for the show when it was revived back in 2004 with Christopher Eccleston portraying the 9th incarnation of The Doctor. Moffat eventually became Doctor Who’s head honcho in 2010 and gave actor Matt Smith his very own sonic screwdriver as the 11th Doctor. Steven Moffat’s time on the show has been spent weaving an intricate web of sci-fi emotional roller coasters throughout his 13 year tenure.
With Capaldi and Moffat both leaving the show, the ushering in of the 13th Doctor will also be a new beginning for the series as it is handed off to Chris Chibnall. The new head has written for the series before as well as created the hit series Broadchurch, which stars the 10th Doctor, David Tennant. It will be interesting, to say the least, for the show to be handed over to new actors as well as a new showrunner.
The regeneration of the Doctor is never easy, but as fans of the show we know that it is necessary for the story to continue. BBC has done a pretty fantastic job on keeping a tight lid on who will be playing the next Doctor, but all is about to be revealed. Stay tuned with DFTG as we are sure to be reporting the reveal of the 13th Doctor.
