Uncharted Film Director Says Why The Game Was Ripe For a Film Adaptation
The long-awaited Uncharted film seems like it may be the closest it ever has been to actualization. The script for the film is completed and ready, and director Shawn Levy seems well committed to the project. The director’s previous directing credits include Night at the Museum, Real Steel and several episodes of Stranger Things, which gives him the experience to handle a project such as this. Now, we have an even closer look inside the mind of the Uncharted film director and his thoughts on what makes the NaughtyDog series of games prime for a film adaptation.
A new Collider interview with Shawn Levy has all of this new insight. In it, Levy shares the interest that he has had in the Uncharted film for a while now, but was too busy until quite recently to suggest his participation in the film to Sony. When it comes to Levy’s knowledge of the game series and this particular film venture, he had this to say:
“I’ve been interested in this project for years. It’s as cinematic a game as we’ve had maybe ever, certainly of late and it’s cinematic because it’s not only kind of wildly visual but it’s really rooted in character and a very specific tone and a sense of fun. Like, when is the last great, fun, f**king action, dynamic, treasure-hunting movie?”
It’s no secret that Uncharted shares a lot of similarities with such classic adventure films as the Indiana Jones series and Romancing the Stone. A film adaptation for Nathan Drake seemed certainly eventual, but no one could have foreseen the series of arrivals and departures for names attached to this project. Let’s just hope Levy doesn’t make that scary vuvuzela noise of death from the Uncharted games sound on the film this time. What do you guys think? Did you enjoy reading these words straight from the Uncharted film director? What elements from the games would you like to see come to the film adaptation? Let us know in the comments below!
