Tom Cruise is “Chosen” in New The Mummy Trailer (VIDEO)

The Mummy Trailer

In the age of remakes and reboots in the cinema world, things can be a little overwhelming. Childhoods being “ruined”, the “wrong” people being cast in a role, and the like all play their part in today’s Hollywood. The upcoming Mummy reboot is no exception, however, but the somewhat lighthearted days of Brendan Fraser as Rick O’Connell are long gone. This is made quite clear by the latest The Mummy trailer, in which Tom Cruise is “chosen” after he awakens a whole world of hurt. The video was posted to Universal Pictures’ YouTube channel, but you can check it out below:

In the latest installment of Cruise’s career, we get to see him running… again. To be fair, his Twitter profile does say that he’s been “Running in movies since 1981,” so we’ll cut him some slack. The newest trailer shows a lot more of the film than the first one did, which gives us a better look at The Mummy and provides hope for a decent action movie. It also hints at the possibility of being more of a horror flick than the previous films.

After unearthing an ancient sarcophagus, Cruise and his team decide it’s a great idea to transport it elsewhere. What could go wrong? You know, other than awakening an “ultimate evil”, being chosen by it for something bigger, and putting the entire world in danger, that is. Throw in a bit of disaster, a touch of tarantulas, set it all to The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black”, and you got yourself a new The Mummy trailer. Here is the description that came along with it:

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”

The Mummy stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Russell Crowe, and Sofia Boutella. It is written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie, directed by Alex Kurtzman, and will be released on June 9.
