WATCH: Super Mario Odyssey’s Attention To Detail Is Out Of This World

Super Mario Odyssey's Attention to Detail

When a lot of people think of detail in video games, it comes down to a title’s visuals. The mountains in a background can range from basic geometric shapes with slight variations in color to an incredibly detailed scene that shows every rock, shrub, shadow, and more. Given the advancement of technology in recent years, the possibilities are seemingly without limit. However, in the case of Nintendo, they’ve never been one to buy into the photo-realistic approach that other companies have taken. Instead, they focus on bringing life to other parts of a title, as is evident in Super Mario Odyssey‘s attention to detail, which is completely insane.

A video that was recently uploaded by YouTuber JalopesTL shows off the game’s detail in a place most might not expect – in its music and sounds. The footage brings players back to the Sand Kingdom and the power lines that appear after the main mission is completed. Essentially, through the powers of Mario’s new friend Cappy, the moustachioed ex-plumber can ride these power lines to get around at a quicker rate. While doing so, the sound that is emitted actually harmonizes with whatever music is playing at the time. Check it out for yourself below:

As JalopesTL points out in the video, many players will have likely discovered this neat detail by now, but he just wanted to go a little more into depth about it. Super Mario Odyssey‘s attention to detail isn’t limited to these power lines, of course. A few other locations are shown off in the footage, showing that Nintendo really focused on synchronizing the music and sound effects to enhance players’ experiences.

Super Mario Odyssey is currently available on the Nintendo Switch. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as we learn more about Mario’s latest adventure, and for other gaming news, check out the following:
