Sunset Overdrive: Insomniac Would “Love To” Make A Sequel

Sunset Overdrive

Many gamers remember, or still enjoy, Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive as the beautifully fun shooter that it is. While the title didn’t exactly receive any favorable remarks for its plot, it made up for it in bucketloads of chaos. That said, developer Insomniac Games, who you may know as the developers of the small indie title based on a certain arachnid-based web-slinging superhero that launched recently, have expressed that they would more than be interested in creating a sequel to the 2014 shooter.

Insomniac is currently on cloud nine, or higher, thanks to the recently released PlayStation 4 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man. During a recent interview, however, CEO Ted Price discussed the opportunity for sequels of their past games. “I think one of the great things about starting a franchise and having the opportunity to make sequels is that you’ve, in many cases, made the hardest decisions already,” he said.

“When you establish an IP, you now know what the tone is, you know what the character is, you know what the core mechanics are that work,” Price continued. “You know what players liked and didn’t like so doing a sequel for any game, be it Sunset Overdrive or something else, is an opportunity to deliver something to fans that’s significantly better than the original, and that’s something that I think we [at Insomniac] would love to do someday.”

While Price didn’t exactly confirm anything, he did bring up a great point. Creating the first title in a franchise is surely rather difficult, with latter entries already having the groundwork laid out for them. That said, there is a strong possibility fans would love to see some sequels from Insomniac, be it Sunset Overdrive 2, Spider-Man, another Resistance title, more Spyro, or even additional Ratchet & Clank. Needless to say, the developer has a bounty of options moving forward. Of course, that also depends on the likes of Microsoft, who calls some of the shots.

Sunset Overdrive is currently available on Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
