Star Wars: Episode IX Casts Former Doctor Who Actor In Key Role

Star Wars Doctor Who

Many people are wondering where exactly the current trilogy of Star Wars films is taking us. We’ve seen some surprising deaths, interesting alliances, and more drama than ever to come from the Skywalker family. That said, J.J. Abrams is returning to direct, many actors are returning for their respective roles, and even new faces will be appearing in Episode IX, including a former Doctor Who actor.

It was recently reported by Variety that former Doctor Matt Smith has been added to the Star Wars: Episode IX cast. It’s unknown at this time who the 11th Doctor will be playing, but it has been said that he will be stepping into a key role. Seeing as the next installment of the popular sci-fi franchise is currently being produced in the U.K., Smith shouldn’t have too much trouble with the commute.

Whether the former Doctor will be siding with the Rebel Alliance or taking up arms with Ren & Pals is unknown at this time, but he will be joined by fellow new castmates Dominic Monaghan, Naomi Ackie, Keri Russell, and Richard E. Grant. Returning for Episode IX will be Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac.

In addition to them, members of the original trilogy will be back. This includes Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and the late Carrie Fisher. Star Wars: Episode IX is currently in production, with a release date set for December 21, 2019.
