Sony Won’t Attend San Diego Comic-Con 2019

Just as Sony skipped over E3 2019, it looks like the powerhouse corporation will continue the trend of avoiding other major conferences this year, including San Diego Comic-Con. Alongside Warner Bros., Universal, and Lionsgate, it looks like a few noteworthy household names will be waving adios this time around.

Deadline reports that Sony and company have a full schedule ahead. With Spider-Man: Far From Home, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Zombieland 2: Double Tap, and more currently in development, it’s proven difficult to find designate manpower at another highly-anticipated event. This isn’t to say Sony won’t be back, since their presence in previous years have proven a fruitful union for fans that travel from across the country.

So far, it looks like Disney and Marvel, Paramount, and New Line are the only ones marked for attendance as the three major studios making a stage presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. However, filmmakers and producers aren’t the only figures that make San Diego Comic-Con a stand-up show. Aside from exclusive merchandise and gear at San Diego Comic-Con, special guests like actors, comic book illustrators, authors, and other notable veterans in film and comics receive outstanding spotlight during these types of events as well.

Despite the unfortunate news, there’s still tons to look forward to this year. What do you think about Sony’s rebellious streak in the past few years? Do you think they’re shooting themselves in the foot by sitting out on conferences or is there more to it than that?
