Rockstar Games Launcher Now Available With A Special Free Game Incentive
Rather unsurprisingly, Take-Two and Rockstar Games have stealthily released the Rockstar Games Launcher. The launcher will give players access to cloud saves, a microtransaction store, and auto-installs for game updates. Given that other massive publishers like Epic, Ubisoft, and EA have already had launchers for a while, it only seems fitting that the developer behind the hit Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption games joined in on the fun. Here’s a look at the titles that are currently available for purchase from the store today:
- Bully: Scholarship Edition
- Grand Theft Auto III
- Grand Theft Auto Vice City
- Grand Theft Auto V
- L.A. Noire
- Max Payne 3
In addition to the above titles, those that download the Rockstar Games launcher can also download Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for free once they login with their Rockstar Social Club account. Aside from the above titles, there are some conspicuous absences here. Most notably is the lack of Grand Theft Auto IV, which previously released a PC version of the title. The game is beloved among players who remember it, and its Single Player DLC expansions were both well-told stories of hijinks, redemption, revenge, and all-around shenanigans. Other games like the first two Max Payne entries, Manhunt, and Midnight Club are not currently available at this time either.
Aside from the obvious, there may be an interesting reason behind the developer releasing its own game launcher. Practically every single person that owns a decent gaming pc has begged and pleaded for a port of Red Dead Redemption and its recent sequel, Red Dead Redemption II. If Rockstar Games were to have developed PC versions of either game, they could make them exclusive to its newly minted game launcher. This would cut out Steam and any other third-party storefront from the mix, which would make for quite the savvy business decision. If we were ever going to get ports of RDR 1 and/or RDR2, Rockstar is going to ensure they get a sweet payday for the effort.
Do you think Rockstar Games Launcher will be a decent service? Are you hoping for any older Rockstar titles like Smuggler’s Run or Red Dead Revolver make it to the store?
