Resistance 4 Is A “Longshot,” Says Insomniac Games

Resistance 4

Insomniac Games is best known for the likes of the Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank series, but the spotlight is on the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man. Set to seemingly give the webslinger his best video game adaptation yet, it’ll be just over a month before players fully dive into that world. That said, the Resistance franchise is another well known entity of Insomniac’s, and many fans have been wondering about the possibility of a Resistance 4.

In a recent interview, Insomniac Games community director James Stevenson discussed his thoughts on the prospect of a new entry in the series, but things are not looking good. “It feels like it’s a longshot to me,” Stevenson said. “But I have learned over the years to never say never. I think there are a lot of people out there that have fond memories of a Resistance game from the PS3 era, but yeah, never say never, it’s just that we have no plans to make another Resistance game in the future.”

That can definitely seem like a negative thing, but as he said, never say never. They could just be solely focused on Spider-Man right now, but that doesn’t mean Resistance 4 could be a possibility in the future. When asked if the developer has ever thought of handing the series off to another studio, Stevenson said, “I’m not sure. Obviously other developers made the portable versions for the PSP [2009’s Resistance: Retribution by Bend Studio] and Vita [2012’s Resistance: Burning Skies by nStigate Games] back in the day.”

“It’s actually Sony that owns the IP and owns that universe,” he continued. “So I guess if they were really passionate about making Resistance 4 and we couldn’t or didn’t want to do it, Sony could totally engage another developer. But that would be up to Sony, not us.” It’s certainly an interesting take on the situation, but a respectable one. No need to build hype for something that potentially might never exist. Besides, the ball is in Sony’s court.

In the meantime for Insomniac Games, Spider-Man swings into the PS4 realm on September 7th. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
