Two More Actors Join the Lion King Live Action Cast – Meet Rafiki and Sarabi
Gradually, actors for the up and coming Lion King live action film from the 1994 classic animation have been revealed. So far, names for roles like Simba (Donald Glover), Mufasa (James Earl Jones), Zazu (John Oliver), Pumbaa (Seth Rogen), Timon (Billy Eichner). Though it was rumored that Hugh Jackman would be voicing the main antagonist of the movie, it was quickly proven false. Instead, it was revealed not long ago that Chiwetel Ejiofar will be Scar, an actor who has been recognized for talent in 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Doctor Strange (2016).
In even more recent news, it seems as though the show-runners for this remake have found two more actors to join the cast. John Kani, known for his role as King T’Chaka in Captain America: Civil War, will become Rafiki the baboon. Meanwhile, Luke Cage actress Alfre Woodard will play Sarabi, the mother to Simba.
There have been whispers of Beyonce joining the cast of the Lion King live action remake as Nala, but no official reports have been made by Disney or other stakeholders. However, as can be learned from the rumor with Jackman as Scar, it’s better and likely to remain speculation until otherwise noted.
Jon Favreau will be the director this time around, his talent recognized in production for movies like the Iron Man series, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and many other upcoming Marvel projects. In fact, he has hands in the production of Avengers: Infinity War. Irene Mecchi and Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) can be given credit for the story and characters, but the former created the original screenplay for the The Lion King (1994) as well as Hercules (1997) and Brave (2012).
