PlayStation Experience 2018 Not Happening, Says Sony

PlayStation Experience 2018

Many gamers around the world have been wondering when Sony would get around to announcing their upcoming presentation that is the PlayStation Experience. In the past, the company has typically provided some information regarding the show before October. However, it looks like Team Blue is changing things up, as there will be no PlayStation Experience 2018.

The fan event, which is usually held in December, showcases all of the greatest PlayStation news regarding upcoming titles. Unfortunately, their reasoning behind calling off the event this year boils down to not having enough to show off. Speaking on a recent episode of PlayStation Blogcast, which can be heard in its entirety below, chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden confirmed that PSX 2018 will not be happening.

“For 2018 — I know this is going to be a disappointment to some people — but we decided to not hold PlayStation Experience this year,” Layden said. “We won’t have it in the states this year. The reasons behind that really are we don’t have — we have a lot of progress that we’re making on our games…Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down into 2019 games like Dreams and Days Gone.”

“But we wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location North America to have that event,” he continued. “We don’t want to set expectations really high, and then not deliver on that. It was a hard decision, but we have determined that this year we will not hold PlayStation Experience.”

What this seemingly tells fans is that the likes of The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, and Death Stranding might be looking at a post-2019 launch, which is certainly disheartening. Of course, that could be completely wrong, and Sony just might not know if these titles will be available next year. Of course, the possibility might not be enough to make up for there not being a PlayStation Experience 2018 show.
