“Major” PlayStation 4 System Update Beta Registration Now Open

PlayStation 4 System Update

It has been a short few months since the last PlayStation 4 System Update, with update 5.0 adding new streaming capabilities, reworked parental control features, Friends List enhancements, and more. Now, Sony is preparing itself for a new “Major” firmware update for its flagship console, and it is opening up beta registrations for those looking to test out the new improvements and features before the official launch.

In a recent blog post over on the Sony PlayStation website, the company noted the details of the beta registration, while also making a nice side announcement for Canadian player. “We’re getting ready for the next major system update for PS4, and can use some help from PS4 owners to test it out ahead of launch,” reads the blog post. “Starting today, you can sign up for a chance to be a beta tester and get an advance look at some of the improvements and new features coming to PS4. And good news for Canadian folks – beginning this beta, PS4 owners in Canada are also able to register for the beta testing.”

Players that choose to opt in for the beta will receive an email with download instructions for the beta version of the upcoming PlayStation 4 System Update. In order to qualify for the beta, players need only have a PS4 console with an active internet connection, as well as an SEN account. While starting up the latest beta for the upcoming System Update, players can choose to be added to future betas automatically without the need to register. Selecting this option will reward beta testers with an “Exclusive PSN avatar.”
