XCOM Creator’s Newest Title ‘Phoenix Point’ Makes Tremendous Crowdfunding Progress (VIDEO)

Phoenix Point

XCOM creator Julian Gollop has returned with a big idea. Phoenix Point is his latest brainchild and the designer has turned to Fig to help crowdfund the game. Gollop even created a video to help bring in interested parties, but what happened next is good news for the reemerging creator.

Since its launch on April 25th, Pheonix Point has already netted $355,730 with 5,181 backers already (as of the writing of this article). The crowdfunding platform works much the same way Kickstarter and Indiegogo do, where fund seekers can offer rewards to backers in exchange for the much-needed cash for development. Phoenix Point has set a goal of $500,000 with a $300,000 availability for investments, however the game is looking to surpass that in the not too distant future.

Phoenix Point is a turn-based strategy game that pits squads of soldiers deployed by the player against hordes of alien like mutations. The game doesn’t stop there as exploration, diplomacy, scavenging, and threat monitoring are all elements of the game. With the love of XCom and the compelling storyline, it is no wonder the campaign is doing well.

Phoenix Point

Phoenix Point’s crowdfunding campaign has an end date of June 8th and is bound to have some pretty cool extras for fans interested in trying out the new game; especially with how well the funding is going. The game was announced in March and has former developers from Ubisoft Sofia and Crytek Black Sea, along with team members from XCOM and XCOM 2 working on the new title. A pledge of $30 or more will get you a digital copy of the game, which is scheduled for release late 2018 for PC.

With more and more developers seeking to crowdfund to launch games, larger companies won’t consider, could game developing become easier to fund for those who aren’t as well established? Join in on the conversation in the comment section below!
