Persona 5: The Royal Confirmed As PS4 Exclusive, No Other Platform Releases Planned
For all intents and purposes, Persona 5: The Royal is shaping up to be the definitive edition of the massively popular Persona 5, which made a huge splash when it released back in 2016 and continues to do well to this day, with the game’s protagonist even getting his own invite to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While re-releasing an existing title typically means it will be available for multiple platforms (hello Skyrim), developer Atlus has confirmed that Persona 5: The Royal will only be releasing for the PlayStation 4, with no other platform releases planned.
The news comes by way of a recent FAQ update for Persona 5: The Royal, which answers some of the questions existing owners of P5 may have for the upcoming release. The second question listed in the fact addresses the planned platform releases, stating that “there is now plan at present” to release P5R on any platform that isn’t the PlayStation 4.
It is of course important to note the phrasing, as it also lightly insinuates that the “plan” could change in the future. Unfortunately, for now it means that those waiting to test the game out on a console other than the PS4 will be waiting for quite some time. Persona 5: The Royal is slated to release in Japan later this year, with a release window of 2020 planned for the West.
So, thoughts on P5R’s PlayStation 4 exclusivity? Do you feel that it makes sense for the franchise, or would you prefer it to come to other platforms?
