Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime Discusses Metroid Prime 4 Progress And N64 Mini
Nintendo has been bust racking up those kudos with the video game community in recent events, especially with the reveal for the highly-anticipated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate among other fantastic titles. There was one particular franchise that was left in the dark even though its existence is not a mystery, and that’s Metroid Prime 4. Well, that and the Nintendo 64 Mini, which was trademarked a couple months ago. Even though it’s a choice they made for the health of the company, the reason for their exclusion of these hot topics are unclear, but Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is willing to clear up any misinformation.
Reggie Fils-Aime sat down with Game Informer to discuss these two missing pieces of Nintendo’s E3 presentation this year and each of their progress. While the N64 Mini hasn’t officially been confirmed, the trademark license was revealed in May that hinted at a new miniature classic. Though he dodges any sort of confirmation statement, he did gives fans a semblance of hope for its future:
Look, we know that our fans love our legacy content. Being in this business 40 years, we know we have a lot of content we can surprise our consumers with. We’re aware of it, and stay tuned. Right now the focus is let’s make sure that we give the consumer that wants NES Classic the chance to pick it up again. I believe we’re also going to have a strong holiday with SNES Classic as well.”
As for Metroid Prime 4, there’s hope in it for the community as well. There’s no shortage of progress and, in fact, development for the next entry in the franchise is “proceeding well.” With all that’s been said and done, Nintendo has had a substantial number of projects on their plate and it’s not an easy task to deal them out at the same time. Reggie Fils-Aime stated:
Last year was important to us to message to the Metroid fan that there was a Metroid Prime experience in development, as we showed Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS. We didn’t want that fan to say ‘You just launched a new system, when are you going to bring me a Metroid on that platform?’ We said it was coming. This year, with so many games launching effectively between [now] and the first half of next year, we wanted to focus on those games. Rest assured, Metroid Prime 4 is still in development and proceeding well.”
In other words, it’s not bad news, but it’s certainly not the best news to hear. It’s certainly better than nothing! The fact of the matter is that both the N64 Mini and Metroid Prime 4 are on their merry way. For the time being, there’s no confirmation as to when fans can expect them to arrive. With that being said, which are you most excited to see release first – the miniature classic console or a video game from a classic IP?
