Nintendo President Intends to Produce 2-3 Mobile Games Each Year

Nintendo President

On Wednesday, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima revealed during an investor’s call that their goal is to produce 2-3 mobile games each year. Naturally, it won’t be difficult for Nintendo to do so. With a wide array of published and produce franchises, they have a solid foundation to build from. It comes as no surprise that this is the company’s next direction.

According to a report by Reuters, Kimishima and company reported a one-third cut to their anticipated profit forecasts for the year. That means Nintendo sales this last year did not meet, or exceed, expectations. Thus, requiring a prediction more reasonable for 2017. Of course, there is a console and mobile games which have yet to be released and considered. In fact, DFC Intelligence forecasts a sale of 40 million Nintendo Switch units by the end of 2020. Seeing as Xbox One has only sold 26 million by the end of 2016, the number seems inexplicably high.

Despite it all, even other companies hope for the best regarding the Switch’s future. Earlier this month, Xbox executives congratulated the company on the upcoming release of their newest console.

Even so, Nintendo wants to maintain relevance not just in console gaming, but mobile games as well. Super Mario Run was the top grossing iOS app not long ago. The mobile Animal Crossing game has been delayed, but is planned to release sometime in the next fiscal year. On February 2nd, Nintendo will be releasing Fire Emblem Heroes, the very first mobile app of 2017. It is currently available for pre-register on iOS and Android devices.

What do you think of the Nintendo President’s claim toward 2-3 mobile apps a year? Is it the right direction for the company?
