Genyo Takeda

The DICE Awards are a time to honor the very best in gaming achievements over the past year. Whether you’re best in a genre, have an amazing soundtrack, or told an incredible story, DICE is likely to take note. The company also takes time out to honor someone whose creativity and ingenuity have shaped the industry. For the 2018 awards, they’ve chosen Genyo Takeda.

Announced by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, the organization will be honoring Genyo Takeda with a Lifetime Achievement Award at DICE 2018 in February. Given that Takeda’s career at Nintendo helped shape the gaming hardware industry, the choice makes perfect sense. His achievements with the company have certainly shaped the way we play and enjoy games.

Genyo Takeda got his start in 1972 with Nintendo and has spent the rest of his life working for the company. Takeda has contributed to such projects as the N64, GameCube, and Wii. Beyond that, he also helped to create the games StarTropics and Punch-Out!! After decades of hard work, he finally retired from the Big N in 2017 at 68 years of age.

This year marks the 21st year for DICE awards and will be held on Thursday, February 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aside from honoring Genyo Takeda, there will be a myriad of categories to honor those of whom have made a significant impact.
