Long Awaited Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel Confirmed – Just Not the Way You Think
It has been over 24 years since the iconic film from Tim Burton was released, but finally everyone’s wish has been granted, just not the way anyone ever expected. There is officially going to be a The Nightmare Before Christmas sequel, but not on film. Instead it’s going to be a manga!
Tokyopop, a famous manga publisher, has managed to snag a license to create the first ever Nightmare Before Christmas comic. It will continue on from the classic, dark holiday movie from 1993 and follows Zero, the lovable pet ghost dog belonging to the film’s main character, Jack Skellington. The Nightmare Before Christmas sequel will be called Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey and captures the events that occur after Zero gets lost in Christmas Town.
Tokyopop will be doing this Nightmare Before Christmas sequel a little differently than they normally would. The manga will first be serialized as full color single issues that will be released to comic book stores, then collected in 2 different formats at the same time, and as full color trade paperbacks and black and white pocket sized manga volumes. The new comic will be written by DJ Milky and illustrated by Studio DICE and is set for release in the Spring of 2018.
The original film grossed over $76 million during it’s first run and was the first ever animated film to be nominated for Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards. It was also the first stop-motion film to be completely converted to 3D. What do you think of a Nightmare Before Christmas sequel in manga form? Are you disappointed or excited?
