New Image of The Killer Clown ‘Pennywise’ Invokes Spirit of The Original “IT” from Stephen King
Recently, a new image of the killer clown Pennywise from the upcoming Stephen King novel inspired reboot “It” has surfaced. The film, which shares the same name as the novel and original big screen adaptation, has been in various stages of development since as far back as 2009 by Warner Bros. Originally, True Detective director Cary Fukunaga was attached to to co-write and direct the this new two part iteration but has since departed the project citing creative differences. As far as we know, the studio still has plans for two films with the first to be set in a period where the protagonists are children and the second film focusing on the surviving children (we know the film is going for an R rating so don’t expect for all the kids to make it) as adults haunted by their childhood trauma.
If you’re familiar with the original film, then this newest image (seen below) will definitely bring back some creepy feels. In fact, it’s arguably one of the original film’s most iconic scenes. I myself was terrified of clowns as a kid after watching the movie. The shot harkens back to the scene from the 1990 classic where Pennywise is shown peeking out of a storm drain. (Shown above) We can’t decide which version is creepier but YIKES!

In this modern version of the horror tale, Hemlock Grove‘s Bill Skarsgard portrays the murderous clown. During a recent interview, the star spoke about the role and what approach he took with the character citing a previous TV adaptation which starred Tim Curry as the creepy monster. Skarsgard said the following:
Tim Curry’s performance was truly great, but it’s important for me to do something different because of that, I’ll never be able to make a Tim Curry performance as good as Tim Curry.”
Stephen King’s IT creeps its way into theaters on September 8, 2017. Skarsgard will star opposite Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Megan Charpentier (Resident Evil: Retribution), and Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special) among others with Andres Muschietti directing. As a fun little nugget of backstory, The Duffer brothers of the cult hit Netflix show Stranger Things were attached to the project at one point during development.
