New Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds Trailer Features Fire-Breathing Enemy (VIDEO)
Sony and Guerrilla Games were kind enough to give fans a sneak peek into the upcoming addition to the critically-acclaimed title Horizon Zero Dawn, initially sharing gorgeous 4K screenshots of scenery and characters to encounter once it releases. Alongside that, a new Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds trailer reveals another enemy player will encounter and it’s danger lies within it’s scrappy tactics and fire-based skills. Friends, meet the Scorcher. The developers go in-depth about how the creation of the Scorcher began, taking inspiration from canine species like the wolves. It’s focus as an adversary is fire-breathing and tactics and its movements on the less predictable side. In an effort to make this creature more intimidating, placing emphasis making the players like a prey being hunted, the Scorcher will slip and slide from the sheer momentum of trying to catch its target at full-throttle.
Facing against the newfound enemy head-to-head will be difficult. “One of the more interesting attacks that the Scorcher has is this ignition boost. He has all these thrusters on his body that he activates and then builds up to this point where the thrusters go off,” says Visual Effects Lead Marijn Giesbertz. “And he gets propelled towards the player.”
In fact, due to how quick its movements are, players will have a hard time throwing in hits when it counts. Before they know it, the Scorcher is already up again and throwing its body toward them. Lead animator, Richard Oud, describes what it’s like to go against it.
When you’re being attacked and you dive away, you barely have time to turn around and prepare yourself for the next attack because he’s already in your face again at that point.”
