New Half-Life Game

UPDATE: It appears the rumors were correct. Valve has officially announced a new Half-Life VR project over Twitter. Original story follows.

Half-Life 3 is one of the biggest and longest-running jokes in the gaming industry. With Valve’s “inability” to count to three and fans’ love for the popular series, many have wondered if another installment would ever appear. While recent reports point to a new title on the horizon, it likely won’t be the one fans are hoping to see.

A Half-Life VR game has been rumored for quite some time, but it has recently been stated that we could possibly be seeing an announcement for it next month. Half-Life: Alyx is the name of the reported VR entry in the series, as pointed out by the Valve News Network in the video below. Before a recent interview transcript (via Prima Games) was leaked, a source leaked a confirmation from none other than Geoff Keighley himself, saying, “March 2020, Half-Life: Alyx comin’ out, and again, yeah, we’ll do The Final Hours next year. You know, it’s been so fun to do those with Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Portal, and that will take everyone through really the past decade at Valve and all that you guys have been through, all the experiments that you don’t know about.”

According to the reports, Half-Life Alyx will be announced during The Game Awards, which will be held on December 12th. In the leaked transcript, an anonymous source stated the purpose of the VR, saying “I mean we would love to be delivering a version of this that you could play with a mouse and a keyboard, but like as we said, it began as an exploration of VR.” They then went on to say “You can see their whole body– Respond to the situation. You know, panicking, dropping clips on the ground as they fumble their weapons ’cause a zombie’s in front of them, all these things, they’re just – it’s been really fun watching playtests.”

As it is with all leaks and rumors, it is best to keep the salt nearby until Valve officially announces anything. In any case, if Half-Life: Alyx is indeed being announced next month, we’ll have to wait until The Game Awards to find out.
