New God Of War Screenshots Showcase Even More Beautiful Visuals

Kratos will be slashing his way into players homes in only a month’s time when God of War makes its long-anticipated release on the PlayStation 4. Fans are especially excited as the franchise is receiving an Old Norse overhaul for the forthcoming adventure, and carrying many of the rich characters and themes present in the overarching mythology. As we’ve seen so far, the game is also covered head to toe in gorgeous visuals and Sony has released several all-new God of War screenshots that showcase even more beauty.

The first screenshot gives an ominous foggy view of one of the locations Kratos and son Atreus will be undoubtedly fighting monsters. We can also see a few archway ruins towering overhead but it’s hard to say if they’ll play a significant role in the game. They could be a nice piece of scenery, or end up being a gigantic boss sticking out of the ground. You never know with God of War.

Secondly, we get a new gameplay screenshot featuring a look at a battle-ready Kratos sporting his new shield-axe combination. He seems ready to destroy the enemies gathering in front of him, whatever they are. Are they Groots? Probably Groots.

The next of the new God of War screenshots features Kratos guiding Atreus in his bow hunting skills. We’ve seen a similar version of this scene in the game’s reveal trailer back in E3 2016, but things seem much more finalized in this new still.

Kratos seems to be very intently concentrating on this tree in this next shot. While the tree is in all honesty a beautiful tree, that’s probably not why the character is so focused on it. The presence of a glowing handprint mark and what appears to be an etched Scandinavian rune may suggest something mystical may actually be happening. Perhaps Kratos could be having a vision?

The last of the new screenshots features a face to face of father and son with Kratos likely giving his boy a stern talking-to. As creative director Cory Barlog has previously stated, the two will have different ways to handle situations with Kratos’ brute strength greatly contrasting with Atreus’ empathy and compassion. It’s expected that the two will have more than a few debates throughout the duration of the game.

God of War is still somewhat shrouded in mystery, only hints being dropped about the potential story and its more complex gameplay components. Still, we do know that it’s coming to PlayStation 4 Pro in an outstanding new bundle, adding a greater visual shine to an already beautiful game. God of War releases exclusively for PlayStation 4 on April 20th.
